  • Important information - Early Finish, Pirate Day and Leavers Service

    Sun 17 Jul 2022

We are constantly reviewing the school’s risk assessment regarding the Red Extreme Heatwave warning which is predicted for tomorrow and Tuesday.  According to my weather apps the hottest part of the day will be between 3-4pm which is when we send children home.

Therefore, we would like to give you the option to collect your children at 1.10pm on Monday and Tuesday when it’s predicted to be a couple of degrees cooler.  Please email school at amy.parnham@gvsf.school if you would like to collect early so that we can have the children ready for collection from the normal exits.

Pirate Day/Treasure Hunt for the Pandas Class - unfortunately, we will have to postpone this until Wednesday afternoon 2.30-3.30pm so that we can avoid the heat outside.

Y6 Leavers Service in Church - With some children leaving early this service will be cancelled and the whole leavers event will take place on Thursday at 2pm  - as previously advertised all Y6 parents/carers are invited, we will confirm the venue tomorrow. (either school or church)

We will be following all government guidance over the next couple of days and ensuring we keep the children as comfortable as possible.  Please ensure that your child has a water bottle in school that they can refill, a hat and sun cream.

Apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.

  • Heatwave

    Fri 15 Jul 2022

We have received some enquiries regarding the predicted heatwave next week and what we will be doing within school to protect our pupils. We have received guidance from the DFE and Local Authority which we will be implementing and have plans in place to adapt our days to make things as comfortable as possible for the children.  Also, the church have kindly allowed us the use of the building next week as this will provide a cool learning environment for the children.

Please feel free to send children in their PE kits on Monday and Tuesday.

  • School Games Award

    Tue 12 Jul 2022

We are delighted to announce that we, St Sebastian's Church of England School have achieved the

    School Games Gold Mark Award

    for the 2021/22 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward and recognise school’s engagement (provision and uptake) in the School Games against a national benchmark and to celebrate keeping young people active, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
Our physical activity and school sport achievements this year include:

    • Attending the Mini-Commonwealth Games.
    • Having a 70%+ uptake in extracurricular sports clubs.
    • Having a colourful and varied PE curriculum, to give children wide experiences.
    • Attending SEND and pupil support sessions.
    • Hosting friendly matches at our school.
    • Holding an intra-school competition.

We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of physical activity and school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our events possible.  We are committed to using the School Games to try and engage those young people who haven’t previously been active or represented our school and to try and ensure that all our students have a positive experience and want to try out new activities beyond school too in our community.  We believe in the power of physical activity and school sport as a school and give opportunities to those young people that need it most either as a participant, leader, official or volunteer.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas linked to the five School Games outcomes and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
     A special thanks to:

    • The amazing children at our school.
    • Our HLTA, Mrs Burton
    • Our sports apprentice, Mr Parnham.
    • Our wonderful and supportive staff.
    • Inspire+ and their invaluable support.
We look forward to applying once again in 2023
  • Seaside Afternoon - Pandas and Koalas

    Fri 08 Jul 2022

This week the children in EYFS and the Koala Class had a fun afternoon ‘at the seaside’. They played beach games on the school field and enjoyed a performance from Punch and Judy themselves. After all the excitement they cooled off with a fruity ice lolly.

  • Sports Day - Hot Weather

    Fri 08 Jul 2022

Due to the high temperatures forecast for sports day on Tuesday 12th July, it is imperative that all children are wearing sun cream, a hat and have plenty of water to drink.

Unfortunately if children do not come to school with these, they will be unable to take part in the activities.
