We have loved out open the book stories this year in church. Every half term these wonderful volunteers take the time to share and act out Bible stories for us to enjoy. We sometimes even get to join in which we love. Thank you so much to the team and we look forward to seeing you again in September.
Art
Mablethorpe Visit
Year 1 spent a day in Mablethorpe exploring the seaside. They had a lovely day including a train ride and a delicious ice cream.
Art
Year 1 are exploring craft in art this term and today we had a go at wool wrapping. They all did so well. Next week we are plaiting, threading and knotting.
Maths
We have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes, their properties and how we can use them to make patterns.
Smoothies
As part of DT we have been making smoothies. We have looked at and tasted fruit and veg and then followed instructions to make smoothies. They loved chopping, squeezing and tasting their drinks. Well done Koalas.
Spring Hunt
As part of our science looking at the seasons and temperature, we went on a spring hunt in the sunshine today. We saw lots of wonderful spring flowers and insects but keep your eyes open for nests, caterpillars and butterflies.

Woolsthorpe Manor Visit
A wonderful day exploring Woolsthorpe Manor and the science centre. We enjoyed looking around the house where Isaac Newton grew up and learning what life was like then. The science centre had some fabulous practical activities looking at gravity, light as well as creating rainbows with prisms, kaliadoscopes and how 3D glasses changed the colours.
The children were brilliantly behaved and we had a great day.
Maths
Year 1 have been working super hard in maths this term. We have been exploring numbers up to 20 as well as addition and subtraction. We have been using practical resources and pictures to help us. Great work this term Koalas.
Geography
Koala class have been learning about the UK and exploring atlas's to identify the 4 countries of the UK and their capital cities. Great work Year 1.
Geography
The year 1 class have done some fabulous work so far this term about the UK as well as writing some wonderful stories. These have made a fabulous display for everyone to enjoy in school. Well done Koalas.
English
In year 1 this week we read The Gingerbread Man and explored instructions as part of our English lessons. Using a recipe and following the instructions we loved making gingerbread people and especially wanted to eat them. Maybe you even got a bite at home? Well done Koalas.
Maths
We have been working hard in Maths using the language: more than, less than, greater than, smaller than and used resources to practice.
R.E.
Koalas are learning about the Jewish festival Hanukkah and designed posters about how Jewish people celebrate this festival.
They shared doughnuts like Jewish people would do as part of this celebration of light.
Toy Museum
Thursday, 27th November 2025
Koalas held their wonderful toy museum for all the parents and carers to visit and look at lots of different toys and the writing the year 1 children had produced about their own toys.
It was so wonderful to see so many parents/carers and children enjoy the museum and have a chance to play with some of the toys and games. Your support is very much appreciated.
Art
In art, Koalas made a colour splash with primary and secondary colours. The children mixed and painted brilliantly and lots of the amazing work will hopefully have arrived home to share with you.
Fireworks
Year 1 haver been creative with paints, pastels and scratch art to explore different ways of making fireworks, ready for writing our own poems next week.

Design and Technology - Puppets

Koalas had a fantastic afternoon making our puppets for our DT project. Lots of adults came to join us and the finished products were amazing!
Geography - Exploring Where We Live
Friday. 26th September 2025
As part of our Geography topic, we have been exploring where we live. We walked around Great Gonerby using a map of the village and found lots of brilliant things.
We looked at the well known buildings and landmarks as well as finding Autumn leaves and conkers which links beautifully to our Science topic - looking at the seasons.
Well done Year 1
Maths
We have been subitising (able to visually see a number of objects instantly) in Maths using lots of resources and then creating our own work showing numbers up to 10.
English
In English, we were rehearsing our sentences in preparation for writing instructions. The children enjoyed using bossy verbs whilst sharing their sentences about making jam sandwiches.
Autumn Hunt
Here we are, enjoying the sunshine as we went on an Autumn hunt as part of our learning in Science. We have been exploring the 4 seasons.
