Class 1 - Friendship Themed Collective Worship - Term 3 2018
Class 1 were very excited to perform their very own 'Friendship' themed collective worship. Children demonstrated fantastic self-confidence remembering to use a clear speaking voice and to consider the needs of their listeners. Some of the children committed their lines to memory and everyone had a really good try at speaking or acting in front on an audience. Well done Class 1, I know the rest of the school loved your performance and you taught everyone about the importance of friendship and that friends may come from many walks of life.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
Children loved going outdoors and experiencing the first snows of winter. It was wonderful to see the children exploring this magical experience; making patterns, digging, throwing and sliding were all part of their play and investigations... it was just a shame there wasn't quite enough for a snowman. Fingers crossed for next time.
Christmas
This term children have been exploring the traditions of Christmas through our nativity stable and Santa's workshop role play areas. In the workshop, children have been independently honing in on their measuring, writing, wrapping and weighing skills. The children have loved the freedom to do this without adult support and develop new skills at their own pace and gain in self-confidence. It has been wonderful to watch the children concentrating on what are some quite tricky tasks and see their pride in themselves when producing their completed wrapped gift.

Children in Need
Children had a great time counting their 'coppers' on our Children In Need day and wearing their spotty clothes. The children were very excited to see if Class 1 had raised the most money. We also used the day to consider how raising money can help other children less fortunate than themselves and other ways in which we can make a difference to the lives of others.

Outdoor Learning
At Saint Sebastian's we are very lucky to have a wonderful outdoor provision which children love to use for all aspects of their learning and in all types of weather. Children can independently create their own assault courses, narrative stories and props, explore nature in our pond, herb garden and planters, put on a show on our simple stage or just simply relax with a book throughout the day. The outdoor area provides lots of opportunities for children to extend and consolidate their learning and creates a wonderful insight into how the children understand and experience the world around them.

Diwali
Children have been developing their understanding of the wider world through the topic of Diwali, the Hindu festival of light. Children have coloured and created rangoli patterns, made Diwali Cards, sang Diwali songs and even made their own Diva lamps using modelling clay. Children have also explored stories from another culture as they have learnt about the origins of Diwali and the beautiful story of Rama and Sita.

Signs of Autumn - Belton House October 2017
As part of our work on Autumn, children visited the wonderful grounds of Belton House. It was a beautiful sunny day and the leaves looked amazing in all their warm autumnal colours. The children had great fun exploring the grounds, kicking the leaves, hugging trees, squirrel spotting, riding the train, exploring the adventure playground and generally enjoying the wonderful seasonal changes that a day in such an amazing location has to offer. As always, the children behaved impeccably. The excellent listening skills, good manners and kindness the adults saw on display made us feel very proud of our wonderful children. Well done Class 1.
