Welcome to Koala Class!

We love to have fun in Koala class!

We are the first year in Key Stage 1 and begin the National Curriculum. We will have Maths and Literacy lessons every morning as well as Phonics and reading. Our afternoons will be filled with fun, topic based learning. Your child will begin working on the 'Maths - No Problem!' scheme which they will continue until Year 6. At the end of the year, your child will take the statutory Phonics Screening Assessment so we will be working really hard on our reading and Phonics this year. PE will take place on a Friday afternoon, so please make sure your child's kit is in school. We ask that children read every night for 10-15 minutes as regular reading is really important and will help your child progress. You can find useful websites to help your child at home further down the page. If you have any questions, please feel free to pop over for a chat.

Maths at Home

Some parents have requested further maths to work on with their child at home. You will find some work for each fortnight below that you can print out and stick into your homework book. This is completely optional but if you feel your child would benefit from some further maths work then the option is available. The answers will often be included on a following page.

Spring 1

Take at a look at our 3D Model of Great Gonerby!

Making our 3D Model of Great Gonerby. We used our fieldwork study of Great Gonerby to plan and design our different building and the street map. We then worked in groups to make the different human features out of junk. It was great fun!

Geography - 14/2/19 - Today we explored Great Gonerby and all the different human and physical features, ticking them off as we went. We followed a map to help us navigate and used the symbols to identify different features. Of course, we had to have a quick play on the park also!
